Egypt Takes Charge of Building New Capital Outside of Cairo
Built to escape Cairo's overcrowding and pollution, the new administrative capital is expected to cost a total $300 billion and feature a new central business district with a cluster of high-rises. The government is now focusing on phase one, which will cover 4,000 of the planned 77,000 hectares.
Warsaw Spire Construction Approaches Completion
Assembly work for the glass façade of Warsaw Spire is expected to complete soon. With this major milestone, construction of the 220-meter tower is entering its final stages. The tower is the tallest of several new projects under construction or recently completed in the Polish capital.
Six Skyscrapers Planned for Melbourne Southbank Parking Lot
A huge parking lot in Southbank could become one of Melbourne's largest skyscraper projects, with plans to build six towers within a network of elevated gardens. The project would be delivered in five stages and would dramatically increase the amount of greenery in the area.
Developer Given Approval to Build up to 317 Meters in Miami
A developer received approval on December 11 from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to build a 1,041-foot (317-meter) tower at 300 Biscayne Boulevard. If built to that height, the tower could be the tallest in the city. The project is expected to include nearly 500 luxury condos.
Architects Break Ground on 18-Story Wooden Tower in Vancouver
Workers have begun construction on the appropriately named “Tall Wood Building,” an 18-story, 53-meter residential tower for Canada’s University of British Columbia (UBC) upper year and graduate students. The tower is poised to be the world’s tallest wooden residential tower.
Illegally Constructed Tianjin Skyscrapers Could be Demolished
China is reportedly planning to demolish three new high-rise buildings, including one that is 65 stories high, as part of its ongoing campaign against corruption. The residential buildings, in the northern city of Tianjin, are up to 30 floors taller than originally planned.
