CTBUH Expert Weighs in on Dubai High-Rise Fire
Working with all available information, CTBUH Fellow and fire safety expert Simon Lay considers the high-rise fire that took place at The Address, its causes, and the potential impact it might have on the industry. Lay predicts that more exterior cladding fires are likely to occur in the future.
Lower Manhattan’s 2 World Trade Center Loses Anchor Tenant
21st Century Fox and News Corp. won’t be moving to the World Trade Center after all, as the separate media giants controlled by Rupert Murdoch have decided to keep their headquarters on Sixth Avenue in Midtown. Sources said the decision not to move was entirely for business reasons.
Downtown Toronto Tower Gets Rooftop Hockey Rink
A hockey rink was installed at the top of the 32-story 120 Adelaide Street West in Toronto’s financial district for a commercial shoot. The rink is roughly half the size of an NHL professional hockey rink and was accomplished using cranes on a neighboring building currently under construction.
Tallest French Tower Outside of Metro Paris Completed in Lyon
Dominated for more than 30 years by the Tour de Credit Lyonnais, the skyline of Lyon now has a new pinnacle with the completion of the Tour Incity. The 200-meter skyscraper is the tallest building in France outside of Metro Paris and is considered the first “low-energy” tower to be built in the country.
Work Begins on Billion-Dollar Brookfield Place Tower in Dubai
A joint venture has broken ground on a $1 billion-dollar development for the proposed Brookfield Place tower which is to be built within the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) district. It will contain more than 83,613 square meters of office space and will connect to an adjacent retail center.
Designs Released for V on Shenton in Downtown Singapore
Designs have been released for a pair of high-rises called V on Shenton. The twin-tower complex incorporates a 23-story office building and a 53-story residential tower, with variations in programming highlighted by unique exterior treatments and façade components.
