Global Awards 2016: Call for Entries
The submission period has been initiated for the 15th Annual CTBUH Global Awards program, signaling the beginning of yet another search for the world’s best tall buildings. Entries are due by April 29.
2016 Conference Receptions Now Open for Registration
Registration for three of the four networking receptions, in the tallest buildings in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong respectively, is now open.

Plans Submitted for 73-Story Tower that would be Brooklyn’s Tallest
Two developers have submitted plans in recent weeks for a 1,066-foot (325-meter) building in Downtown Brooklyn, which would be almost twice as tall as anything surrounding it and the first supertall in New York City outside Manhattan. A commission hearing is scheduled for March 15.
Construction Date Set for the Hyundai Global Business Center in Seoul
Seoul city officials announced that construction is scheduled to begin on the Hyundai Global Business Center’s 105-story main tower in early 2017 after all the necessary permit and documentation procedures are completed. The complex will have a total floor area of 920,000 square meters.
Cape Town’s Triangle House to be Converted into Hotel and Apartments
The 114-meter Triangle House is in the process of being converted from an office tower into a hotel and apartment high-rise. When completed, the building will be home to the tallest residential units in the city. The apartments and penthouses will be ready for occupancy by the end of October 2016.
London’s Paddington Pole to be Radically Redesigned
Irvine Sellar’s controversial 72-story Paddington Place − nicknamed the “Paddington Pole” − may be halved in height after the tower was withdrawn from planning. Architect Renzo Piano recently produced fresh sketches for Sellar and his backer, Singaporean billionaire Ong Beng Seng.
External Cladding Audit Finds Fault with 83 Melbourne High-Rises
The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) says just over half of 170 buildings audited buildings were found to be non-compliant in using external wall cladding materials that failed the combustibility requirements for a high-rise. Non-compliant buildings are now undergoing full safety inspections.
New York’s Via 57 West set to Open in March
Via 57 West, the tetrahedron-shaped Manhattan apartment tower designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and developed by the Durst Organization, is preparing to welcome its first group of tenants in March 2016. The tower contains 709 rental units and a host of amenities.
