Construction Underway at 15 Hudson Yards in New York
With a recently poured foundation mat, Hudson Yards’ first residential building, 15 Hudson Yards, is set to begin its climb into the far west side skyline. The residential tower will house nearly 400 units and soar to 279 meters upon completion. The façade will utilize curving, cold-bent glass to achieve its shape.
Nairobi’s Prism Tower Nears its Topping Out Point
Now under construction on a plot of land steps away from the traditional central business district, the 34-story Kings Prism Tower is designed to accommodate the needs of international corporations. If construction continues apace, the complex should be opening its doors by 2017.
La Défense High-Rise Plot Scaled Down and Redesigned
The ambitious 296-meter Tour Phare, originally conceived as France's tallest edifice and a symbol of La Défense’s ongoing renewal, has been redesigned as the Tours Sisters – comprising two shorter towers of 100 and 200 meters. The cost of the new project is estimated at USD$704.6 million.
Winner Announced in Competition for Nanjing Financial City II
German architecture practice gmp has won a competition for phase two of the Nanjing Financial City. The design for the large-scale financial center is based on intricate references to Nanjing’s historic city structure. The 65,000-square-meter site will be developed into an urban quarter with mixed uses.
Groups Petition Putin to Save Moscow’s Historic Shabolovka Tower
Preservationists are once again imploring Russian president Vladimir Putin to take decisive measures to restore Shabolovka Tower – a deteriorating Constructivist masterwork in Moscow that rises 160 meters and consists of stacked hyperboloid volumes.
Huge Blaze Hits UAE Residential Towers in Ajman
Firefighters extinguished a blaze that burned up the side of several towers in the United Arab Emirates city of Ajman, the latest in a series of skyscraper infernos in the Gulf nation. Building and safety experts have attributed the spate of fires to aluminum composite panel cladding.
