700-Meter Megatall Skyscraper Proposed for Shenzhen
bKL Architecture has unveiled their concept design proposal for a new tower and plaza located in Shenzhen, China. Rising to 700 meters, the new tower will be a gateway to the city's CBD. Its form is composed of three transforming design components: the shape, the structure, and the sky gardens.
Proposal for Brooklyn’s First Supertall is Approved
On Tuesday, April 19, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission approved a proposal for 9 DeKalb Avenue, a 73-story apartment building that is set to become the first supertall in New York outside Manhattan. The design was inspired in part by the neighboring Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn.
Singapore’s Oasia Downtown Officially Completes after Hotel Opening
After nearly four years of construction, the 27-story Oasia Downtown in Singapore’s central business district (CBD) was officially completed on April 18, when the hotel began accepting guests. The tower’s vegetated façade has allowed the building achieve a green plot ratio of 750 percent.
Long-Planned Madrid Skyscraper Could Become the Tallest in the EU
A proposed 70-story tower in Madrid is the flagship of an urban expansion project that will include five additional skyscrapers. If built, the structure could be the tallest in the European Union (EU). It’s also expected to generate 120,000 new jobs and catalyze improvements to local infrastructure.
Construction on Metropol Tower Istanbul Progresses
Upon completion, Metropol Tower Istanbul is expected to be one of the tallest buildings in the city. Already structurally topped out, the tower is characterized by a curvy glass façade on one of its sides, giving the structure a slender look as it ascends toward its final height of 250 meters and 58 stories.
Carpet-Weaving-Inspired Five-Tower Project Proposed for Abu Dhabi
Developers are planning to build a carpet-weaving-inspired complex, called the Al Sadu Towers on Al Reem Island. The development includes five intricately woven towers, with the podium resembling a handcrafted carpet. No official launch date has been announced.
