Mass Timber Building Begins to Take Shape in Vancouver
Brock Commons Phase 1 is beginning to take shape at the University of British Columbia. Beyond the concrete core, the structure will be composed of cross-laminated timber floor slabs, glulam columns, and steel connectors. The residence complex will provide a studio and shared suite units for 404 students.
70-Story Tower Proposed for Melbourne’s La Trobe Street
Jean Nouvel, the French architect behind Sydney's award-winning One Central Park, is making his mark on Melbourne with a AUS$700 million (USD$500 million), 70-story mixed-use tower in the northern edge of the CBD. Each of the building’s four sides will have a different colored façade.
32-Story Volumetric Modular Building Topped Out in Brooklyn
The project known as 461 Dean Street has topped out in Brooklyn, New York. Designed by SHoP architects, the 32-story structure is set to become the first residential building to open at Pacific Park, a nine-hectare site undergoing rapid redevelopment. Occupancy is expected to begin in fall 2016.
Parisian Housing Block with Curvy Floors and Balconies Proposed
Beijing studio MAD Architects has revealed plans for a Parisian housing block surrounded by undulating balconies, which is set to become the firm's first residential project in Europe. The 50-meter-tall block is known as UNIC and will feature planted terraces that attempt to extend the adjacent park vertically.
South Korean Banking Firm Constructing New HQ in Seoul
One of the largest banks in South Korea is converting its old headquarters into an updated, 26-story building. To continue business as usual, the bank has temporarily moved its headquarters to the Gran Seoul Building in Changjindong. The project is slated for completion in 2017.
Construction Progresses on Midrand’s PwC Tower
The horizon of Midrand, north of Johannesburg, is set to change forever with the construction of the new PwC Tower, which will be a focal point of the up and coming Waterfall City development. Due to its distinctive twisted form, the tower is intended to become an iconic structure for the growing city.

The CITAB-CTBUH China Tall Building Awards Jury is pleased to announce the winner of the inaugural Overall Award: Bund SOHO, Shanghai.
Design / Research Competition Entries Due
Proposals for the Student Research Competition are due by July 1, and submissions for the Student Design Competition by July 25.
