BURJ DUBAI SURPASSES CN TOWER
The Council congratulates the Burj Dubai team on becoming the Tallest Freestanding Structure in the World. Although the height is a closely guarded secret, the construction of what is to be the World's Tallest Building has broken each record set in front of it - the final to claim the prize of the Tallest from the current holder, Taipei 101, when it is completed in late 2008 / early 2009......link
SHANGHAI WORLD FINANCIAL CENTER TOPS OUT
The 101-story World Financial Tower topping-out ceremony was held earlier this month for what will become the world's second tallest building upon completion in Spring 2008. The high-rise will also take the crown from Jin Mao Tower as the tallest in China - although its been over a decade in the making. Construction began in 1997, but an Asian financial crisis halted the tower until 2004.....link
SILVERSTEIN WTC PLANS
Larry Silverstein announces 70 construction packages out to bid for the three high-rises at the World Trade Center site by November. Representatives from the architectural firms were also present to present the latest of the design schematics......link
KUWAIT INVESTMENT AUTHORITY HEADQUARTERS
KEO International Consultants were officially notified that their design was awarded for KIA headquarters. The winning design is a iconic tower lifted above a 6 story podium that houses all public facilities. Wind turbines and photovoltaic panels have been incorporated to create an efficient building......link
ENR LISTS THE TOP GREEN CONTRACTORS
A market originally deemed a "pie-in-the-sky" has become more mainstream as seen in the membership in the USGBC (US Green Building Council and Green Building Initiative) which grew from 500 to 10,000 in the 5 years after 2001. ENR publishes its first ever survey of the Top Green Contractors to capture this growing trend of sustainability.....link
Pelli Clarke and Hines win Transbay project
The Transbay Authority Board of Directors has voted unanimously for the Pelli Clarke and Hines team for an office tower and new Transbay Terminal next door. They were competing with two other teams and San Francisco's city planning director believes they will get all the approvals required within 18 months - an "aggressive schedule" for the city ....link
