Global Tall Building News
Plans Change Again for World's Most Expensive Building in Seoul
The Yongsan Landmark Tower was originally intended to be 100 stories and 500 meters high, but the developers have decided to add 11 more stories and 120 meters to make it Korea's tallest building. The developers also decided to change the name from Landmark Tower to Triple One standing for 111.
Istanbul: High on ambition
Construction is scheduled to begin early next year on what its developers are billing as Europe's tallest tower, even though it will not stand in Europe. The plans highlight the scope of Istanbul's ambitions as Turkey's commercial capital and as a growing power within the region. The exact height of the building is not yet clear.
New York: How Hudson Yards Danced Its Way to Design Glory
Last spring, developer Related became disenchanted with the design of the first phase of Hudson Yards, the gargantuan project on top of a train yard along the Hudson River. Wind Experts Advise on Wind-powered Skyscraper in San Francisco
The infamous winds that gust through downtown San Francisco streets, overturning kiosks and sometimes toppling pedestrians, will help to power a revolutionary skyscraper set to open next fall – and could pave the way for new thinking for energy-generating wind turbines in buildings.
Take-offs Keep Brisbane Grounded
Brisbane's tallest building is expected to spring up from the site of a failed CBD tower. Brisbane City Council has approved a 90-story hotel and residential building that, on completion, will most likely be the city's tallest, and a 34-story commercial building to be known as 111+222.
Japan Looks at Creating World's First Backup City
Standby generators and batteries have been used extensively in industry, usually as a safeguard to keep vital production lines rolling. However a radical plan just unveiled by the Japanese Government for a standby city for Tokyo takes this concept to a whole new plane.
