Eleven Years Later: A WTC Status Report
Eleven years after terrorist attacks brought down the twin towers of the World Trade Center, efforts to rebuild the site continue at an uneven pace, slowed by politics, finances and local disputes. However, several of the key projects are coming to fruition.
Tameer Delivers World's Tallest Residential Tower
Real estate developer Tameer has announced the delivery of Princess Tower, which the CTBUH now officially recognizes as the World's Tallest Residential Building. At 413.4 meters (1,356 feet), the Princess moves past its Dubai neighbor, the 393-meter (1,289-foot) 23 Marina.
Vertical Slum Exhibit Takes Golden Lion Award
The top prize at the Venice Biennale went to a project featuring La Torre de David, the abandoned skyscraper that was invaded by squatters. "Squatters" who now live in the unfinished tower structure have created a vibrant community, including small businesses and community space.
New Residential Tower Planned for Kenya
Developers unveiled a 22-story mixed use tower intended for Nairobi, Kenya's capital. The new KES3.5 billion (US$41.5 million) project, Le Mac, was launched by Mark Properties Limited and will reportedly be the city's first residential tower. It is scheduled to open in 2015.
One Raffles Place Celebrates Opening
Tange Associates launched the 209-meter (688-foot) One Raffles Place Tower 2 in Singapore's CBD. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, officiated the grand opening of the 38-story tower. Tower One was completed in 1986.
Timber High-rise Tops Out
Lend Lease's 10-story cross-laminated timber (CLT) building, Forté, located in Victoria Harbour, celebrated its topping out, Architecture Source reports. This building is slated to be the tallest timber building in the world, according to the builders.

NYU Group Earns CTBUH Seed Grant
Researchers from New York University won the first CTBUH research seed funding grant. The money goes toward studying impacts of tall buildings on physical activity in China.
Belgian Student Wins Design Competition
KIT Karlsruhe student Alexis De Bosscher earned first place honors in the CTBUH International Student Tall Building Design Competition for his project "Mosaic Habitat."
Members from Israel Form New Group
Industry professionals from Israel used the Shanghai Congress to promote the formation of a new chapter, designed to promote the Council and best practices in tall building development.
New Issue of CTBUH Journal on Sale
The special edition of the CTBUH Journal focuses on China, with special reports on the SOM-Greenland tower in Wujiang, façades systems and details on China's unique linked towers.
CTBUH Supports Facades and Innovations Symposium
Several CTBUH members will be speaking at the Collaboration: The Art and Science of Buildings façade conference in Chicago, October 11-12, sponsored by The Architect's Newspaper.
