New 88-Story Tower Planned for Surfers Paradise in Gold Coast
A Hong Kong-based developer has taken the next step in its push to build a new $700 million Surfers Paradise tower by lodging a development application with the Gold Coast Council. The new 88-story mixed-use tower, to be built on a 3,500-square-meter site, will house 693 apartments on 85 levels and a three‑story podium.
Berlin Saves the Communist-Era High-Rises of Alexanderplatz
Berlin has just said “yes” to Communist-era blocks and “no” to more new skyscrapers. On July 13, the city announced that it was listing some key Communist-era structures in Alexanderplatz, East Berlin’s central square, as historical monuments. The decision is a contentious one: the new monuments just confirmed are in a late-1960s modernist style that many people still dislike.
Construction Continues on Kuwait Investment Authority Headquarters
Construction continues on the 220-meter KEO-designed Kuwait Investment Authority Headquarters, which is inspired by four elements rooted in traditional Islamic design – the courtyard, sustainability, the mashrabiya, and traditional geometric shapes. The tower is lifted six floors above ground level, and the podium appears to slip through it.
Architects Release Casablanca Finance City Tower Design
Designs for the Casablanca Finance City Tower in Morocco have been released. The building's crown, coupled with the way the building interacts with ground-level public space, creates an "inverted double-crown." Slated for completion in 2017, the 226,042-square-foot (21,000-square-meter) building broke ground in December of 2014.
First Figure-Eight Ferris Wheel Nears Completion at Studio City
An innovative figure-eight Ferris wheel has been implemented as the iconic centerpiece to the topped-out $3.2 billion Studio City complex in Macau. Towering at 130 meters, the Golden Reel is located at the center-point between the resort's twin hotel towers within the structure itself. The Ferris wheel is embedded within the structure of the building.
New Renderings Revealed for Related’s 35 Hudson Yards Project
Construction is proceeding swiftly across the entirety of the Eastern Yards within Related’s greater Hudson Yards plan. Now, new renderings for 35 Hudson Yards have been released. The tower is expected to rise 308 meters and 79 floors, and the renderings show that the tower will be mixed-use, housing condominiums and a hotel.
