2011 Award Winners Announced
The Council has announced the winners of its 2011 "Best Tall Building" and lifetime achievement awards. These awards recognize four tall buildings and two individuals.
  New CTBUH Fellows
This year, three individuals are being recognized for their contribution to the Council over an extended period of time; Ron Klemencic, Brett Taylor & John Zils.
Global Tall Building News
Wuhan to Build World's 4th Tallest Building
AS + GG Architecture has won an international competition to design Wuhan Greenland Center which, at 606 meters (1,988 feet), will likely be China's third tallest building and the fourth tallest in the world when completed in about five years. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer.
For Sale: Willis Tower, The Nation's Tallest Building
The group that owns Willis Tower is testing investors' appetite for a piece of the nation's tallest building. The owners have hired two brokerages to market the 110-story building, either for an outright or a partial sale. "The market is extremely strong for high-quality, highly leased properties."
Melbourne: a Skyscraper-sized Portrait
To honor the city's indigenous heritage, a skyscraper is planned that, when glimpsed at from certain angles, depicts a portrait of Aboriginal clan elder William Barak on its façade. Once the Carlton Brewery, the building will live a second life as a high-end residential apartment tower by 2014.
Index Tower: Top Honors for Keeping Cool in Dubai
Set in the crowded avenues of Dubai, the supertall Index Tower has stood out to win the 2011 award for the Best Building in the Middle East and Africa, bestowed by the CTBUH. The skyscraper has multiple layers of heat-reducing elements but still allows daylight to penetrate deep into the interiors.
Goettsch Partners to Design New District Site in Guangzhou
A master plan by Goettsch Partners (GP) has been selected as the winning scheme in the design competition for a prominent site in the new Pazhou district in Guangzhou, China. Three urban parcels form the triangular site, which is planned for seven buildings totaling 428,000 square meters.
Abandoned Bangkok Skyscraper: Fifty Levels of Empty Building
Just 14 years ago, the Sathorn Unique was being built, destined to become one of the city's fanciest residential addresses. Now, it is an abandoned building. Never completed, it remains as yet another "ghost tower" of Bangkok. A tangle of trees and vines are beginning to take over the lighter parts of this monolith.

Tornado Tower Signboard Installed
Doha's Tornado Tower, winner of the CTBUH Best Tall Building for the Middle East & Africa in 2009, has installed a signboard which commemorates this award in both English and Arabic.
CTBUH-IIT Design Studio
The CTBUH-Illinois Institute of Technology's latest tall building studio, based on a real site in Seoul, is now ready for viewing. The studio consisted of twelve students working in pairs on six individual designs.

Former CTBUH Chairman Receives IABSE Award
Former Chair Leslie Robertson, LERA, has been awarded the International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering.
