World Trade Center "Spire" Construction Begins
Construction workers atop One World Trade Center hoisted into place the first section of a spire that will extend the building to its full architectural height of 1,776 feet. It took crews about 45 minutes to lift the 16-foot section, weighing almost 70 tons, into place.
Jordan's Future Tallest Tower Tops Out
DAMAC Properties has announced that its tower in Amman, Jordan is now topped out. The Heights, which will be the tallest residential tower in the country when it is completed, is a 35-story project in Al Abdali, the new downtown district of Amman.
Cheesegrater Building is Half-Let
The Rogers Stirk Harbour-designed Leadenhall Building under construction in the City of London is now over 51% pre-let, the developers announced. Insurance firm Amlin has agreed to rent 33,500 square meters of office space in the building, also known as the Cheese Grater.
First South American Trump Tower
The Trump brand is expanding to South America. Donald Trump announced the Trump Tower Punta del Este, a resort located along the southeastern coast of Uruguay. The 24-story US$100 million apartment building will reportedly begin construction in May 2013.
Hudson Yards Construction Begins
Construction workers broke ground on the Hudson Yards project, New York's largest privately-funded development project since Rockefeller Center. A groundbreaking ceremony was held recently at the 26-acre site.
Dubai's Impending Building Boom
The Wall Street Journal questions the next wave of construction projects announced for Dubai, given that the emirate is still US$100 billion in debt from its 2008 boom-turned-bust. Those behind the colossal effort claim that by spending billions more, Dubai's economy will regenerate

CTBUH Research:
Canada Grows Taller

Toronto is the most active tall building market in the western hemisphere, a study by the CTBUH found. Canada completed twice as many buildings taller than 200 meters than the United States in 2012.
Latest CTBUH Journal Now Available
The final issue of 2012 features Absolute Towers, as well as papers on ice and snow issues on new facades, fluid-based aerodynamic performance and an interview with BIG founder Bjarke Ingels.
BBC Puts Spotlight on Skyscraper Trends
With the help of the CTBUH, the BBC produced an extensive series on the state of skyscrapers. The package included a live interview with Executive Director Antony Wood on BBC World News.
Website Adds Chinese Media Reports
A new section has been added to the CTBUH website tracking coverage of the association in Chinese-language media, the latest move to integrate the CTBUH with China's fast-growing tall building industry.
CTBUH Tours Landmark Chicago Building
The Council staff was treated to a behind the scenes tour of the Chicago Board of Trade, one of Chicago's most unique and historic buildings, including an addition designed by Helmut Jahn.
