Manhattan West Development Begins Construction
The US$4.5 billion Manhattan West development, which will be built above part of the West Side Rail Yards, began construction mid-January. The development will include two commercial towers built over the railroads, as well as a third residential building built on land.
Helicopter Crash Puts Scrutiny on Tall Buildings
In the aftermath of London's recent helicopter tragedy, Mayor Boris Johnson has tentatively called for a re-examination of tall building safeguards in the city. The city's current regulations include a 1,000-foot height limit for buildings, warning lights and airman notification lists.
Miami Set for Construction Uptick
Construction is starting to pick up in Miami after a six-year slide. Several large projects are moving forward, led by residential towers. The list of new projects includes the Millecento, a 42-story tower with 382 units, the 28-story MyBrickell and BrickellHouse, a 46-story, 374-unit project.
India State Inaugurates 122-meter Tower in New Business District
Officials in the India state of Gujarat this week formally inaugurated a 122-meter tower that is part of the Gujarat International Financial Tec-City. The tower is the first project to launch in the center, which is planned to include 110 towers.
Controversial Tower in Melbourne Receives Approval
Melbourne's Planning Minister Matthew Guy has secured approval for a tall residential tower in the city's bourgeoning CBD. The 226-meter (741-foot) Tower Melbourne was designed by Australian architecture firm Elenberg Fraser.
Developer Seeks to Crowdfund Skyscraper Projects
The Prodigy Network, the New York-based real estate marketing company which crowdfunded the Colombian skyscraper BD Bacatá, is expanding its efforts to solicit thousands of small investors to buy slices of an American skyscraper in exchange for a share of rents.

Year in Review: Tall Building Trends of 2012
The number of tall building completions fell in 2012 compared to the record number finished in 2011, but there are signs that the market is picking up in many regions.
Work Starts on Structures Research Project
Meetings in the CTBUH offices of stakeholders from around the world kickstarted work on an Arcelor Mittal-backed research project, which will examine the lifecycles of different tall building structural systems.
