Chinese Company Proposes Africa's First Supertall in Ethiopia
The Guangdong Chuan Hui Group has announced plans to develop the Chuan Hui International Tower in Addis Ababa. The mixed-use tower, tentatively named the Meles Zenawi International Center, will be 448 meters (1,470 feet), more than twice as tall as Africa's current tallest.
Long Island Development Marks Post-Sandy Recovery
Construction has officially begun on the first phase of the largest affordable housing project in New York City since the 1970s. When completed, this phase of the Hunter's Point South Project will include two high-rise residential buildings, an 1,100-seat school and a 5-acre waterfront park.
Make Proposes Pinnacle Revision Scheme
Make Architects is creating a proposal to replace the failed Pinnacle project in London. Founding partner Ken Shuttleworth is proposing to remove the "stump" that currently occupies the site and replace it with a simpler, more flexible tower, with residential and office space as well as hanging gardens.
Paramount Launches Major Four-Tower Project
Hollywood's Paramount Pictures is partnering with Dubai developer Damac Properties to build a US$1 billion hotel project in Dubai. The Damac Towers project is Paramount's first venture into the hotel and real estate industry and will include four 250-meter towers.
Istanbul Launches International Financial Center
Construction work has commenced on the US$2.6 billion Istanbul International Financial Center (IIFC) project in Turkey. The HOK-designed master plan is composed of four different districts, which are centered around culture, commerce, civic functions and government.
Seoul "Dream Hub" At Risk of Nightmarish Default
The Yongsan International Business District is on thin ice, as developers have defaulted on a major loan repayment in the midst of a real-estate slump. The owners missed a mid-March deadline to pay interest on asset-backed commercial paper worth US$179 million. The total value of the 56-hectare "Dream Hub" is US$28 billion.

The first issue of 2013 is now available, featuring a detailed case study of the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, a review of tall building activity in 2012, and more.
CTBUH Board of Trustees Meet
The Board of Trustees of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat held its annual meeting at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, welcoming three new trustees.
Young Professionals Workshop Held at UIC
Architecture students met with industry professionals at the CTBUH Young Professionals Committee workshop, University of Illinois, Chicago, on March 20.
CTBUH Visits ArcelorMittal's Luxembourg Office
The team has made progress on the research project "A Whole Life Cycle Assessment of the Sustainable Aspects of Structural Systems in Tall Buildings."
