Chinese Company Makes Major Property Moves in UK
Dalian Wanda Group, one of China's largest property developers, announced it will launch a two-tower hotel and apartment complex in western London as part of a multi-billion dollar international property expansion. The skyscraper project will cost around £700 million (US$1.1 billion).
Court Strikes Down Gazprom's Tall Plans
A St. Petersburg court has struck down the exemption which previously granted Russian oil giant Gazprom permission to build its Okhta Center. The site, which contains remains of an ancient Swedish fortress from the time of Peter the Great's rule, is now on the city's cultural heritage protection list.
Gehry Updates Highly-Anticipated Toronto Project
A newly updated plan for the Mirvish + Gehry development on King Street West in Toronto was released by developer Projectcore. Originally announced last October, three Frank Gehry-designed towers will replace low-rise brick warehouse office buildings and the Princess of Wales Theater.
Saudi Prince Looks to Pursue Another Supertall
Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal announced that plans for Kingdom Tower in Jeddah are on schedule, taking the opportunity to express interest in building a higher tower as tall as one mile (1.6 kilometers). The board of directors of Jeddah Economic Company met in Riyadh to discuss progress.
Astaka Project to Include Malaysia's Tallest Residential Building
Developers are planning Malaysia's tallest residential building, a 301-meter (988-foot) luxury tower in the city of Johor Baru. The Astaka tower is phase one of a MYR4 billion (US$1.2 billion) development that will ultimately include three office towers, two additional residential towers and a major shopping mall.
GM Building Stake Sale Breaks Its Own Record
A pair of foreign real estate developers has acquired a 40 percent stake in the General Motors Building in New York. The stake sold for $1.4 billion, valuing the property at $3.4 billion. The transaction is the highest valuation for a property in the US since the GM Building sold in 2008.
