Cheongna City Tower Infinity Receives Approval
GDS Architects has achieved planning approval for its "invisible" Cheongna City Tower Infinity at Incheon, just outside of Seoul, South Korea. GDS collaborated with Samoo Architects and A&U Engineering. The group's proposal was awarded first prize in a national design competition held by Korea Land Housing in April 2011.
Norway's Future Tallest to Boast Cradle-to-Cradle Principles
The Urban Mountain team has won the Nordic Built Challenge in Norway with a proposal that includes the refurbishment and extension of Biskop Gunnerus Gate 14 in central Oslo, creating Norway's tallest building. The design team will employ Cradle-to-Cradle principles as well as other sustainable strategies.
Plans Unveiled for UN Office Tower
Plans have been unveiled for a United Nations skyscraper designed by Pritzker Prize-winner Fumihiko Maki. The tower was designed to consolidate the UN's scattered operations into a single structure on First Avenue, containing office space for as many as 2,700 UN employees on the upper floors.
London's Newest Tower Proposal Already Has Its Nickname
Henderson Global Investors has revealed plans to build an 84,500-square meter office tower at 40 Leadenhall Street in the City of London. Plans for the 170-meter building dubbed "The Toast Rack" also include 1,900 square meters of space for shops, cafés and restaurants on the ground floor.
Anonymous Buyer Nabs David Stott Building for a Low Price
The 19,500-square meter David Stott Building in downtown Detroit has been sold at auction for US$8.95 million. The reddish-brown, art-deco skyscraper had a starting bid of US$3.5 million and was part of an online sell-off at Auction.com, along with the former Detroit Free Press Building which sold for US$4 million.
SOM Designs Bank HQ in Dubai
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill has won the commission to design the Mashreq Bank Headquarters in Dubai. The 32-story office building features a cantilevered volume at the top, creating a shape that optimizes sun-lighting in the office units in the tower.
