57th Street's Super-Skinny Tower Clears First Approval
The new residential tower at 111 West 57th planned for New York may soon be able to lay claim to the title of "skinniest skyscraper in the world." The design, by SHoP Architects, took a major step towards becoming a reality after it was granted approval by the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
Lagoon Revival Arrives with a Splash
The world's largest man-made lagoon is to be constructed as part of Dubai’s planned Mohammed Bin Rashid City District One, which will include the Dubai Twin Towers. Meydan Group and Sobha Group, through a joint venture, will build the AED26 billion (US$7 billion) residential development centering on the new Crystal Lagoons.
Stock Exchange Tower Completed in Shenzhen
OMA has completed the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in the heart of the city's Central Business District. As one of OMA's best-known designs, the 250-meter skyscraper, nicknamed "the Miniskirt," features a three-story podium elevated 36 meters above the ground.
Greenland Takes Major Stake in Atlantic Yards
Chinese state-owned property developer Greenland Holdings Group signed a preliminary deal to take a majority stake in Atlantic Yards, Brooklyn's 9-hectare residential and commercial project. Under the proposed joint venture, Shanghai-based Greenland would acquire a 70% stake in the project.
Marina 101 Gets Dreamy Rename
Real-estate company Dream has announced its next international hotel project, Dream Dubai, in the under-construction Marina 101. Dream officials disclosed that the hotel group has completed a deal that will rename Marina 101 to Dream Dubai Marina, in what is set to become Dubai's second-tallest building.
New Hotel Brand Launches Major Global Initiative; Next Stop Singapore
glh., a London-based international hotel subsidiary of GuocoLand Leisure Group, has launched a new luxury hotel and private residences brand, Clermont. The Clermont brand will begin with three developments on two continents, with a gross development value of US$3.4 billion.
